Backspace

Backspace

There’s no backspace button for life.
We can’t just go back and change our answers,
fix our mistakes before they happen.
Life doesn’t come with an eraser
and a bottle of white-out,
or even a warning label slapped on it.
There’s no Surgeon General warning:
May cause complications.
And we can’t put our life on hold,
I’ll be right back,
hang on a second.
There’s no away message option,
leave a message I’ll answer you later.
We can’t tape it in our VCR and zone out for an hour,
Kkowing life will be preserved on the VHS,
and we can just rewind and tape over
whatever concerns us.
