Painting My Life
I paint my life
One panel at a time,
One color after the other,
One step then the next.
One shape, one shadow
And another to the mix.
My hand is steady around the brush,
Strokes filling the blank expanse of my future
And painting out a path ahead.
The light will dim and fade,
Eventually – my eyes squinting
To try and focus on the canvas before me.
And the light will disappear
As I put away my paints,
Wash brushes and hang aprons
Before a finished canvas,
And lay down to sleep.
